Maintenance page
Show visitors a "back soon" page instead of an error while a web service can't respond.
The maintenance page is a "back soon" page Appentic shows visitors instead of a bare error. With the project's Back-soon page setting on, visitors see it whenever a web service can't answer. The setting covers every web service in the project, on their appentic.app addresses and custom domains.
When visitors see it
With the setting on, visitors see the page whenever a web service answers with a 502, 503 or 504 error. That happens:
- during a deploy on a machine too full to start the new version alongside the old one
- while nothing is running to answer, for example when the app keeps crashing
- when your app itself returns a 502, 503 or 504. Your app's own response is replaced by the page, so turn the setting off if your app returns these on purpose, for example from an API.
The response keeps its error status code, so uptime monitors still see that the service is unavailable.
Most deploys start the new version before stopping the old one, so visitors don't see the page at all. See Deploys.
Turn it on or off
The Back-soon page setting is on for new projects.
- Open any web service's Settings.
- Under Maintenance, use the Back-soon page toggle.
The change saves as soon as you flip the toggle and applies within a few seconds. Because it's a project setting, flipping it on one web service changes it for all of them.
Maintenance mode, in the same panel, is different. It shows the page to everyone straight away, for one web service, whatever the back-soon setting is.
Suspended projects
A suspended project always shows the maintenance page to visitors, whatever this setting is. See Running out of credits.
