Changing machine
Change one of a project's machines to a larger or smaller size in the same geo.
Change a machine to another size when its services need more room, or when you want to pay less for one that's too big. Its data is kept, but everything on that machine goes offline for a few minutes while it restarts. The project's other machines keep running.
Change a machine
- Open the project's Resources page.
- On the machine's card, open Actions and choose Change machine-1.
- Open the Machine dropdown and pick a size. Each entry shows its monthly price and the difference from what the machine costs now.
- Click Change machine-1 and confirm.
While the change runs, the card shows Changing machine-1 to … and everything on that machine is offline. This usually takes a few minutes. When it finishes, everything on it starts again.
A database or key value store with a standby on another running machine keeps serving while its machine changes.
What you can change to
The dropdown lists every machine in the machine's geo. Some can't be chosen, and the dropdown says why:
| Label | Why |
|---|---|
| current machine | It's the size the machine is now. |
| not available right now | It's sold out in this geo. |
| disk too small | Its disk is smaller than the machine's. See Disk grows and can't shrink. |
| not enough memory | What runs on the machine needs more memory than it has usable. Lower some services' memory, or move some to another machine, first. |
A machine stays in its geo. To run services in another geo, add a machine there and move them to it.
Disk grows and can't shrink
When you change to a machine with a bigger disk, the machine's disk grows to the new size. After that you can't change back to a machine with a smaller disk, even if its memory and CPU would be enough. Keep this in mind before moving to a much larger machine for a short time.
Price
The new monthly price applies from the change. If the new machine costs more, your balance must cover the higher running cost first. See Running out of credits. Changing to a machine that costs the same or less only needs your balance to be above zero.
Prices and stock can change
If the machine sells out or its price changes before you confirm, Appentic shows you the new price or a comparable machine before anything changes. See Stock.
If the change fails
If the new size can't be set up, Appentic brings the machine back as it was. The card shows Bringing machine-1 back as … until it's running again, and your data is kept.
If the change stops part-way, the card shows Needs attention with a Retry button.
When you can't change a machine
You can change a machine only while it's running. Change machine-1 isn't offered while the machine is being set up, stopping, stopped or starting, or while the project is suspended.
