Workspaces and collaborators
Group projects in workspaces and invite people to work on them.
A workspace holds projects and the people who can work on them. Every account starts with a workspace called Personal. Create more workspaces when you want different people on different projects, for example one workspace per client.
Owners and collaborators
A workspace has one owner and any number of collaborators.
| Owner | Collaborator | |
|---|---|---|
| See and work on every project in the workspace | Yes | Yes |
| Create, build, deploy and delete services | Yes | Yes |
| Rename the workspace, invite and remove people | Yes | No |
| Delete the workspace | Yes | No |
| Turn on code fixes for a web service | Yes | No |
Everything in a workspace is billed to the owner's credits, whoever created it. Collaborators need no credits of their own to work in it. See How billing works.
Appentic builds through the owner's GitHub connection, so every repository the workspace deploys must be one the owner has given Appentic access to. See GitHub.
Switch workspaces
The workspace switcher is at the top of the sidebar. Click it and choose a workspace. Workspaces that someone else owns are marked Shared.
Create a workspace
- Open the workspace switcher and choose New workspace.
- Enter a Workspace name and click Create Workspace.
Appentic switches to the new workspace. You are its owner.
Workspace settings
Only the owner sees Settings in the workspace switcher. It opens Workspace settings, where you can:
- change the Workspace name under General and click Update
- invite and remove people under Members
- delete the workspace
Invite a collaborator
- Open the workspace switcher and choose Settings.
- Under Members, enter the person's email address and click Send invite.
Appentic emails them an invitation link, valid for 3 days. When they open it:
- If they're signed out, Sign in and accept signs them in with Google, creating an account if they don't have one. To use GitHub instead, they sign in with GitHub first, then open the link again.
- Signed in, they choose Accept invitation or Decline.
They must be signed in with the email address you invited. If they're signed in with another one, the page offers Sign out and switch account.
Invitations that haven't been answered are listed under Pending invitations, where you can Revoke them.
Remove a collaborator
In Workspace settings, click Remove next to the person and confirm. They lose access to the workspace's projects straight away.
Delete a workspace
In Workspace settings, click Delete workspace under Danger Zone and confirm. You can't delete your only workspace, or one with projects that still have services or machines: delete those projects first. Deleting a workspace also removes its empty projects, and can't be undone.
